The passing of a special friend to us all.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of South Pacific World War II Museum Manager, Alma Wensi, on Saturday 25 May 2019.

Alma joined the Museum project in its early stages and quickly became its driving force. His energy, commitment and belief in what the Museum could become helped shape it into what it is today. More than a manager, he was a guiding presence—someone whose generosity and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

His natural leadership and sharp business instincts were recognised early by Museum President Bradley Wood, who appointed him to lead the project following his work in the tourism and telecommunications sectors. Alma understood the scale of the task ahead and embraced it fully. Much of the support the Museum enjoys today—from sponsors, partners and the Vanuatu Government—stands as a testament to his tireless efforts.

Yet it was not only his work behind the scenes that defined him. Alma was the welcoming face of the Museum, greeting visitors from around the world with warmth and enthusiasm. His deep knowledge of local history brought the story of Espiritu Santo to life, captivating all who passed through the Museum’s doors.

Beyond the Museum, Alma was a devoted husband and father. His love for his wife Edwige and daughter Amirah was central to his life, alongside a strong and abiding faith. At the Centenary Presbyterian Church in Luganville, he was a respected leader and an active supporter of the church’s youth community.

Alma was one of those rare people whose impact is felt far beyond their role. His kindness, humility and genuine care for others made him unforgettable to all who knew him.

His passing leaves a profound loss—not only for the Museum, but for the wider community he served so selflessly. His legacy lives on in the work he helped build and in the many lives he touched.

Goodbye, dear friend. May God be with you always.
