The Next Chapter
The South Pacific WWII Museum is entering an important new stage of development — and we would love you to be part of it.
Thanks to the generosity of the Swire Group Charitable Trust, the Museum has been offered USD $22,000 in matched funding to help expand our facilities and create a dedicated Library and Research Centre.
To unlock that support, we now need to raise the matching USD $22,000 ourselves.
If successful, the combined funding will allow the Museum to expand its collections storage, create new exhibit areas, and establish a permanent research space dedicated to the wartime history of Espiritu Santo and the wider Pacific.
This project will dramatically improve how we preserve, protect and share one of the South Pacific’s most remarkable wartime stories.
What your support creates
The new Library and Research Centre will help transform the Museum from a small community exhibition space into a far more significant historical and educational resource for the region.
The expanded facility will:
- Preserve fragile documents, photographs and artefacts connected to Santo’s wartime history
- Provide researchers, students and historians with access to rare Pacific War material
- Support visiting authors, documentary makers and veterans’ families
- Create improved archival storage for the Museum’s growing collection
- Allow the Museum to tell more of the stories connected with Espiritu Santo’s extraordinary role during World War II
Why Santo Matters
During World War II, Espiritu Santo became one of the largest Allied bases in the Pacific.
Tens of thousands of troops passed through the island. Vast airfields, hospitals, docks, fuel depots and supply bases transformed Santo into a strategic hub supporting campaigns across the Pacific theatre.
Today, those stories continue to resonate with historians, divers, veterans’ families and visitors from around the world.
The South Pacific WWII Museum exists to ensure that history is preserved and shared for future generations. The new Library and Research Centre represents the next major step in that journey.
